If you are struggling with substance abuse, you need help to uncover the root of addiction and build positive ways to cope with stress or even a mental health disorder. Drug or alcohol addiction treatment sometimes includes a partial hospitalization program (PHP).
A partial hospitalization program is an intensive level of outpatient care for people who are facing substance use or mental health disorders and need treatment to find sobriety again.
A PHP also helps people for whom an inpatient or residential program won’t work because of cost or living arrangements.
Harmony Treatment and Wellness in Stuart, Florida, offers intensive treatment in a PHP that includes behavioral and mental health services to help you get started on recovery and overcome addiction.
About Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) for Addiction
A PHP is the most intensive addiction treatment you can find at the outpatient level of care. The program occurs in a highly structured environment and lasts all day (around 8 hours).
This level of care can function as an alternative to inpatient care or residential treatment, marking the beginning of a continuum of outpatient treatment. It can also be a step down from inpatient hospitalization.
Either way, at Harmony Treatment and Wellness our PHP treatment team offers psychotherapy, behavioral and mental health treatment, and other services in a comfortable and peaceful environment.
Benefits of PHPs for People in Addiction Recovery
You can expect to receive several benefits by going through our PHP at Harmony Treatment and Wellness. By not going with inpatient care, you sidestep living in a hospital setting but still receive an intense level of treatment.
This allows you to attend treatment during the day and go home in the evening. With this arrangement, you can work on relationships and receive support while beginning this crucial stage of your recovery. We also offer safe and supervised housing for people in PHPs if you need it.
A PHP is an immersive treatment experience where you have access to mental health professionals, social workers, and peers, while working with clinicians on your mental and behavioral health.
What Treatments Are Offered in Harmony Treatment and Wellness PHPs?
At Harmony Treatment and Wellness, we offer a broad range of services from therapy to education that pick up where detox leaves off.
Our detox program offers stabilization, but our PHP gets down to the nuts and bolts of treatment. Our providers work with you through a variety of therapies and in a variety of settings to give you the tools to move forward in recovery.
Whether you are facing a mental illness or addiction, group therapy can make a huge impact on your recovery because it connects you with others who are walking a similar path, allowing the whole group to learn from each other.
Individual therapy is when you work alone with a therapist in a safe and confidential setting. This time gives you the chance to discuss events in your life that you have never talked about before and begin to uncover the roots of addiction.
Music and art therapies are alternative approaches that teach you how to use music and art as coping skills when facing temptation or stress. Interacting with these mediums as part of your treatment plan can also help lower anxiety levels as you focus on something positive.
Adventure therapy uses physical activities to increase your self-esteem as you learn how to overcome obstacles, work with others, and stay calm in the face of challenges.
If adventure therapy is part of your treatment plan, it may involve such activities as:
- Kayaking
- Rock climbing
- Ziplining
- Hiking
Outdoor therapy may sound similar to adventure therapy, but the focus is actually quite different. Adventure therapy focuses more on the activities you are doing, whereas outdoor therapy uses nature itself as the focus, teaching you relaxation techniques through a natural connection.
Addiction can be hard on relationships. Family and relationship counseling begins the process of healing by facilitating a discussion between you and your loved ones. This gives both of you the chance to talk about how addiction has impacted your lives and what you can do to move forward.
Life skills and education go hand in hand at Harmony Treatment and Wellness. Our education workshops teach you what substance abuse and addiction can do to your mental and physical health. They also teach you the life skills you need to live a recovery-based lifestyle.
Wellness is a broad term that includes 8 aspects of life that impact your mental health such as finances, environment, and physical health.
Wellness education teaches you mindfulness (awareness) of habits like healthy eating and good sleep habits and how they impact your physical and mental health.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) are the two main therapeutic models for addiction treatment. We use CBT to teach you how to recognize negative thought patterns and replace them with positive ones that result in new behaviors.
CBT is often applied broadly to mental health and substance use disorders making it a valuable resource for treatment.
Addiction often stems from experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event (especially in childhood). This can make trauma recovery therapy a critical component of your treatment plan. This also includes EMDR, a focused therapy that helps you target specific memories and reduce flashbacks.
At Harmony Treatment and Wellness, we offer dual diagnosis treatment if you are facing mood disorders or a mental illness such as bipolar disorder as well as substance abuse.
When you enter treatment, you may discover you have been using drugs and alcohol to cope with mental illness. The ability to address both disorders at the same time is a critical part of treatment.
Harmony Treatment and Wellness offers services in both psychiatry and healthcare to address your needs holistically while you are in treatment with us. Through our psychiatrists and healthcare providers, we offer medication management and medical supervision and care.
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of FDA-approved medication to treat opioid or alcohol use disorders. The medications we use include Vivitrol and Suboxone to address alcohol and opioid addiction respectively. This treatment tapers off as you step down through our levels of care.

Tips for Choosing a Partial Hospitalization Program
Choosing a partial hospitalization program can also be overwhelming. Looking to see if a treatment center has marks of quality provides an objective way to discern whether their PHP is going to give you the professional and caring treatment you need.
These marks of quality include:
- Accreditation: Harmony Treatment and Wellness is accredited by the Joint Commission, a respected national organization that holds treatment centers like ours to high standards of care and regular evaluations.
- Treatment options: Addiction treatment should never take a one-size-fits-all approach. Quality rehab centers offer a range of treatment options to address a range of needs.
- Personalized care: At Harmony Treatment and Wellness, we pull from a wide range of options to customize a treatment plan that addresses your individual needs and gives you the tools necessary to move forward in recovery.
- Aftercare: Having access to continuing care is a critical part of treatment. Going through a PHP is not enough. You need help transitioning back to daily life, and aftercare is a key component of that process.
- Insurance coverage: A final mark of quality is a rehab center that makes treatment widely accessible by working with a range of insurance companies. This ensures that the people who need treatment will be able to afford it.
Now is the perfect time to begin to heal!

Partial Hospitalization Program FAQs
AA partial hospitalization program (PHP) is the most intensive level of outpatient care you can receive. It includes a full structured day of treatment.
An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a step down from PHP with daily morning or evening classes lasting about three hours.
An outpatient program (OP) is the lowest level of care but continues to offer you support and guidance through individual and group therapy and other practical services.
A PHP addresses a variety of needs through a day-long, highly structured program. You will receive individual and group therapy and participate in alternative therapies and mindfulness education.
If you need it, you can go through dual diagnosis treatment and trauma recovery therapy. You will also have access to medical care, medication management, and medication-assisted treatment through a PHP.
It depends somewhat on what your individual needs are and how severe your substance use disorder is. Generally, a PHP is a short-term treatment approach that lasts about 30 days.
This does not include the full continuum of care at Harmony Treatment and Wellness, which takes you from detox to outpatient/aftercare. That process can last several months.
